PATCH at the Vic Youth Championships - Australian Sailing

PATCH and Nutricare were thrilled to sponsor the recent Victorian Youth Championships for Australian Sailing. Our ongoing partnership with Australian Sailing aims to work together to promote the importance of sustainability in sailing clubs around Australia and the world.

"The 2022 Youth Sail VIC finished with a flurry on Port Phillip this week, as Australia’s finest young sailing talent battling it out and places on the Australian Sailing Youth Team (ASYT).

Competitors were treated to a range of conditions across the four days of racing, but for many it was a time to celebrate after two years of border restrictions had played havoc with the national youth sailing schedule.

As a result, the event doubled up as the selection event for the ASYT, with those athletes going on to compete at this year’s Youth Sailing World Championships in The Hague, The Netherlands.

Hosted by Royal Yacht Club of Victoria, the event attracted over 180 youth sailors from across the country. The Laser Radial (29 entries) and 29er (36 entries) classes attracted the largest number of sailors from the regatta.

“It was great to see this group of youth sailors competing in Melbourne over the last few days. At this stage of development, it is very important that sailors enjoy the experience that competition and the surrounding environment offers,” said Australian Sailing National Performance Pathways Manager Ken Lynch.

Close racing and tough conditions over the duration of the competition certainly brought out some of the attributes we will look from these young people in the future.”
